| Name: | Ethan |
|---|
Name: Ethan. He can’t quite remember his last name.
Age: Somewhere between 19 and 23. He can’t quite remember.
PB: Changes with each death. Currently Josh Hartnett.
Species: Revenant.
Appearance: Ethan’s appearance changes each time he jumps to a new body, so trying to describe it would be difficult. He usually likes to wear the same style of clothing in each body, if possible. Usually some kind of t-shirt with a band logo on it, or some saying he thinks is funny. They’ll usually be very loose and baggy, and he sometimes wears a fishnet undershirt with long sleeves. He seems to have a thing for the camouflage cargo pants, and he has several different pair, each a different camouflage print. He’s got a pair of heavy leather boots with lots of buckles that he seems to love, but he does also have a pair of Nike basketball sneakers – worn and faded – for times when he needs the freedom of movement they provide. His nails are usually painted, alternating between dark purple and black.
Personality: Ethan’s not so much with the pep. Then again, he should be dead, but he wound up in some other dead body, so can you blame the guy? He doesn’t sit there whining and crying about his situation. He doesn’t like it and he doesn’t pretend to, but he recognizes that there’s nothing he can do about it now and deals with it the best he can. Which, in most cases, means acting as something of a vigilante. He presents a very apathetic, hard exterior.
That’s not really who he is, though. The poor guy is terrified of the thought that he might forget who he is. Each time he jumps into a body, he gains full memory of that body’s life, but each death robs him of a portion of the memories of each life. At the moment, he’s only in his first new body – aka the one he jumped to after his own body died – so there’s still a strong connection to the partial memories of his original life. After two or three bodies, though…well, sense of self, or rather a lack thereof, could potentially become a serious problem.
Not to mention the rather embarrassing possibility that he may end up in a female body, since he can’t choose what bodies he jumps into. Whether fate will be cruel enough to stick him in a female body, only time will tell…
Strengths: His skills tend to shift from body to body. He retains one or two skills from his original life, and may possibly retain one from each new body. Currently, his skills from his original life include being an okay fighter (in a purely untrained, brawling sense) and sleight of hand (he spent some time as a pickpocket in his original life). Skills this body has given him access to: He can play a mean lead guitar, he can wield a sword somewhat capably (he won’t cut his own foot off, but he’s nowhere near a master) and this body has a pretty high tolerance for alcohol. In general, he gains access to all the memories a body has when he enters it. He has a healing ability that only extends to his own body. Usually, 12 hours is enough to heal most wounds. Serious wounds can take up to 24 hours to heal. He also has slightly enhanced strength and reflexes, but not as large of an enhancement in either category as other supernaturals.
Weaknesses: Each death leaves him with only partial memories of the life of the body he inhabited. This includes his first death, which means he only has partial memories of his own life. Each death thereafter leaves him with only partial memories of the body he’d been inhabiting at the time of death. The obvious problem with his condition is a decreasing attachment to his original life. At the moment, he’s still got an intact sense of self since he’s just started out in his first new body, but after a couple bodies, he’ll have partial memories of multiple lives floating around in his head and it’ll get harder and harder for him to maintain a sense of self. One day, he may even forget that he’s really dead, and ultimately he might even forget who he is. Worse is the possibility that he may develop split personalities based around each body he inhabited. It allows him to maintain a sense of self, but a Revenant with multiple personalities is a very dangerous thing.
Physical weaknesses vary from body to body. This one is allergic to certain perfumes. He won’t have a seizure or anything, but he can have pretty bad sneezing fits if he gets a good whiff of one of the perfumes. Which perfumes is he allergic to? Most of ‘em.
Personal History: (Please note: Ethan only has partial recollection of this life, and each time he jumps to a new body, he gains access to all of their memories, and carries a portion of those memories with him the next time he jumps. I’m giving the history for his original life here. If each body requires a bio all its own, that’s fine, just let me know and I’ll draw one up each time I have Ethan die and hop into a new body.)
Ethan Dobbs was born to a strict, no-nonsense cop and a nurse. Neither parent was around all that much, dad because of work and mom because when she wasn’t on shift at the hospital, she was off sleeping around or popping pills. Left to his own devices, Ethan did not turn into some thug, nor did he start writing depressing poetry about how his parents were never around. He survived, picking up a smoking habit and quickly learning how to be a successful pickpocket when he needed some money. Okay, so maybe he explored matters extralegal a little bit, but not much. He fell in with a similar crowd and they became a strange, close-knit family. He even dated someone from the group briefly, but it didn’t work out. Neither of them really had role models to show them how to commit.
Dad bit it when a zombie bit him. Mom up and left after that. Theoretically she’s still alive, but Ethan doesn’t care too much either way. How’d Ethan by the farm? Ironically, he got mugged. When he fought back, the muggers decided to kill him rather than just mug him. He wants to find out who they were and return the favor, because hey, that’s what you do in this type of situation, isn’t it?
His previous death is why it was so shocking when he woke up in a new body in some back alley with a bottle of gin lying overturned next to his head. This guy had lead a pretty normal life, at least as far as normal went these days, but got caught up with booze and gambling. He’d tried to short-change a bookie. And the moral of that story? Bookies don’t like being short-changed.
